Danish Estates: Sven Knudsen Smooth Brandy
Product Number: 004-001-19355
Sven Knudsen was the older brother of Teddy Knudsen as well as a renowned Danish carver himself, having worked with Sixten Ivarsson and Poul Rasmussen, and he contributed greatly to the current Danish school of artisan pipe making. Sven passed away sadly in 2010, but it's always a joy to see his pieces come through the estate market. Offered here is an exquisite Brandy that's well-steeped in the Danish tradition, with some additional plumpness lent to the bowl's broad base before gradually tapering up toward the flat rim. Lively licks of flame grain climb the bowl's flanks underneath the warm, chestnut stain. It's worth nothing that unlike other pieces we've seen from Sven in the past that featured that carver's name stamped on the stummel, he etched his name on this one.- Jeffery Sitts
