One of the great things about the creative minds of pipe carvers is their drive to perfect through iteration. Yes, they are often inspired by other carvers, but they use that inspiration not to copy, but to experiment, perfect and ultimately make it their own. Such is the case with Tom Eltang's Devil Anse shape, where Tom — upon seeing Kevin Costner's "Devil" Anse Hatfield's Ball-bowled and pencil-shanked pipe — immediately took to perfecting the "Devil Anse" that he saw in his head: a little more Egg-like in the bowl, a stouter, oval shank, with a swell in the underside from the gently arcing line that runs from the fore of the rim to the button. This piece was made in commemoration of Smokingpipes' 15th anniversary in 2015.
