Danish Estates: Preben Holm Private Collection Fancy Freehand
Product Number: 004-001-19586
Preben Holm is known for his Danish Fancy Freehands, with their unique shaping often comprised of distinct line work and distinct curves. The shaping of this example is splendidly lined and angled and very lengthy with a dual finish. The rim is wavy, with a sloping, paneled fore that is lifted a bit, as if one could peek underneath. The sides and aft are essentially paneled, also, with concise ridgelines adding some pleasing textural presence, while the shank is somewhat triangular and flared at the end. A stylistic, jet-black stem pairs well with the bottom of this Freehand, much of which is made up of dark, craggy plateau, an interesting departure from the norm. This really is a fascinating pipe, with a warm, auburn stain and plenty of chamber capacity. Additionally, it's able to sit sturdily upright.-Angela Robertson
