Danish Estates: Jess Chonowitsch Sandblasted Brandy Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-19713

Jess Chonowitsch is a living legend of Danish pipe making, and for good reason. A student of Sixten Ivarsson, Jess has an eye for proportions and details that imbues every piece with a sense of carefully considered elegance, and is even responsible for many of the shapes in Stanwell's shape chart. While this Brandy from the Danish master may initially appear to be simple and understated, every singular detail combines to form a macro-composition well-suited to the carver's heralded reputation. With its plump, low-set waistline, perfectly balanced proportions, soft taper to the rim, and immaculate display of grain, this piece showcases why Chonowitsch's pipes are consistently sought after by collectors. Ultra-tight ring grain climbs the bowl, accentuated by a crisp sandblast, offering a stimulating texture in hand as well as a fine complement to the warm, contrast-stained rim. It should be noted that it does show some rim darkening, scraping and carbonizing in the over-reamed chamber, and minor tooth marks, but it's been priced accordingly and is perfect for someone looking to experience a piece from one of the greatest pipe makers ever.
