Danish Estates: Emil Chonowitsch Smooth Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-20883
Danish tobacconist Emil Chonowitsch learned pipe making from Poul Rasmussen in the Suhr repair shop, eventually passing his skills and knowledge onto his son, Jess Chonowitsch. Though not to be overshadowed, Emil made striking pipes in his own right, focusing on crafting traditional shapes in the Danish style. This Billiard is one such example of his fine craftsmanship, with the pert, upright bowl poised at the front of a low-slung shank-and-stem combination, making for a sleek, soft profile. The trim shank and stem bolster the stature of the bowl with their slender lines while giving the piece a lightweight ease in hand. Neat and graceful, this piece wears a traditional finish the nicely accentuates the lush, tight bands of flame grain as the flow from heel to rim, while birdseye adorns the length of the shank.
