Danish Estates: Former Sandblasted Brandy (31) (for Georg Huber) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-21603
A versatile straight Brandy by none other than Danish pipe-making legend Hans "Former" Nielsen, this rendition is stamped to indicate it was made for Georg Huber's tobacco shop in Munich. Former put his many decades of experience to good effect here, creating a softened rendition of the Brandy's tapering profile, the more subtle linework hinting towards an Apple, while maintaining a little extra girth around the bowl's base and offering delightful cheeking at the transition. It's a slightly muscular take, representing well the Danish functionalist approach to pipe design, with excellent proportions and balance throughout.
Former gave this one a leathery sandblast to accentuate a handsome cross-grain orientation, yielding plenty of stimulation in hand and plenty of visual detail for your eye to explore. The handcrafted vulcanite stem tapers quickly out back to allow the aft end to generate a sleek nuance despite the pipe's overall stout nature. Attention to detail around the lip button is, of course, excellent, one of the many factors contributing to a pipe sure to become a favorite in a discerning collector's rotation. It should be noted that Former over-drilled the airway a bit, which has been factored into the price.- Joel Balyeat
