Danish Estates: Jorn Larsen Smooth Pot (Uptown's) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32366
Jørn Larsen was as much a machinist as he was a pipe maker, having designed the copy-fraizer that came to dominate Danish factory pipe production in the 1990s and 2000s, and is notably still in use by Tom Eltang for the Sara Eltang line, Neerup, Chacom and others. Prior to retiring in the early 2000s, most of Jørn's pipes were made with this method, using templates based on shapes from his friend Jess Chonowitsch, and expertly finished. This low-slung Pot from Larsen was crafted for the Uptown's shop in Tennessee and displays a broad, curvaceous base that allows it to sit sturdily. Rather plump and Apple-like, the bowl is poised at the end of a gradually diminishing, streamlined shank and stem for an elegant, seamless profile. The stummel is dressed in a smoky auburn stain, revealing an underside awash in stunning birdseye, while tendrils of flame grain grace the flanks. Presented unsmoked.
