Danish Estates: Kent Rasmussen Smooth Freehand (Butterfly) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32377
Kent Rasmussen leverages his background in architecture and engineering to craft works of smokeable art. His pipe-making style is often highly sculptural, marrying structural lines with voluptuous curves. This Freehand exemplifies Rasmussen's style and showcases the Danish carver's ability to render impeccable grain from a given block of briar.
Almost Horn-like in its build, this piece boasts a pronounced curvature across the entirety of its stummel. The bowl boasts a wide rim that crests towards the transition and nearly meets the shank's upward curling face. From these two ends of the stummel, a deep curve takes shape, following the trajectory of the ridgelines that wrap around the briar's flanks. The bowl slopes into the lifted heel, which, in turn, feeds the shank's upward climb. The stem extends from the face of the shank and arcs gently for a comfortable smoking posture. A rich auburn smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights beautiful strands of flame grain across the briar's flanks and a dazzling array of birdseye across the fore and underside.
