Danish Estates: Tonni Nielsen Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Boxwood (NAPS) (03) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32507
This bent Brandy showcases Tonni Nielsen's ability to render traditional Danish shapes with an easy flowing sense of line. Hoisted at the fore by a subtly lifted heel, the bowl here possesses a vertically inclined stance that maximizes its visual weight and draws attention to the disparity between its broad heel and tauter rim. The shank-and-stem arrangement takes on a more subdued form, one that gradually tapers and curls into a subtle yet sinuous S-curve out back. The oval shaping of the shank contributes to the composition's elegant and minimalist line work, which keep most of the visual weight anchored at the fore. A dark, crisp sandblast dresses the stummel and brings a rugged texture to the briar's grain, while a trim accent of boxwood at the shank end provides a dose of warm color to the otherwise shadowy palette on display.--Davin Hylton
