Danish Estates: Peter Stokkebye Smooth Dublin with Bamboo (H) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32744
Jørgen Larsen was the artisan behind Peter Stokkebye pipes before he developed an allergy to briar dust and had to unfortunately retire. It's a real shame, as the artisan was remarkably talented and demonstrated a keen eye for shaping and line work, as evidenced by this Dublin. Tall and stocky, the bowl cants dramatically at the fore of the composition and flares from its narrow heel to its broad, softly inflated rim. The bowl's forward drive lends the entire composition a dynamic stance in profile, while the slender, arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement takes on more of supporting role and keeps most of the visual weight anchored at the fore. The shank is extended by two knuckles of warm bamboo, adding a touch of organicism to the design as well as flash of warmth. A smoky, chestnut-hued smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights fine strands of flame grain around the bowl as they rise to a rim populated with birdseye.
