Danish Estates: Age Bogelund Smooth Bent Brandy with Horn (L) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-32834

Age Bogelund ran the Bari pipe factory after Viggo Nielsen until the plant closed, hand-crafting some pipes under his own name. His work is not commonly seen and, given the quality and precise shaping, is subsequently highly collectable, usually consisting of larger renditions such as this extra-lengthy bent Brandy. The rounded heel of the hearty bowl is plump and curvaceous with a pronounced taper toward the rim, which is rather narrow, gently rounded and sloping. The supple contours and easy lines clearly demonstrate Danish design cues and are seen through the composition. The artisan has accented this piece with a quite generous horn ferrule, its pale hues contrasted by the stylish, jet-black stem of vulcanite. A warm auburn contrast stain cloaks the stummel, revealing stunning, tight striations of flame grain on all flanks of both bowl and shank with birdseye seen flecking the heel.
