Danish Estates: Tonni Nielsen Smooth Brandy (5) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33212
Tonni Nielsen is a masterful carver that's been working with pipes since the age of 16, when he took a job at the famed W. Ø. Larsen workshop. He worked at Larsen for a number of years, studying under Hans "Former" Nielsen and Teddy Knudsen, before eventually setting up his own workshop. This Brandy nicely showcases Nielsen's distinctive style, which tends to prioritize a mixture of sharp angles and supple curves. The bowl here tapers swiftly upward from its wide, plump heel, which bulges outward at the fore of the composition. The diamond shank's firm ridgelines extend through the transition to the bowl's base, creating a direct visual tension between the heel's rounded bulge and the shank's more rigid line work. It's all dressed in an auburn smooth finish that highlights some gorgeous flame grain across the bowl's flanks. Unsmoked.--Davin Hylton
