Danish Estates: Teddy Knudsen Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32980
A master carver that's held in the same esteem as Jess Chonowitsch, the Ivarssons, and Hans "Former" Nielsen, Teddy Knudsen is one of the most well-respected and highly regarded pipe makers in the world. It's not often the Danish carver's work appears on the estate market, so this bent Dublin is quite the rare treat. Showcasing Knudsen's elegant line work, sophisticated shaping, and stylish employment of accenting materials, this piece exudes a grace and charm that can't help but enrapture.
Poised at the fore of a sinuously bent shank-and-stem arrangement, the bowl flares from its firm, narrow heel to its broad, slightly asymmetrical rim. The bowl boasts a Pot-like breadth that fills the fingers with substance, while the curling shank-and-stem arrangement adds a bit of fluid gesture to the pipe's profile. A crisp, dark sandblast dresses the stummel and coaxes out a brilliant array of rippling growth rings across the surface of the briar, providing plenty of character for the eyes and fingers to admire. A warm boxwood accent adorns the shank end and lightens the overall composition for further visual appeal.--Davin Hylton
