Danish Estates: Jess Chonowitsch Sandblasted Bent Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33119
With decades if experience behind him, Jess Chonowitsch is among the most esteemed pipe carvers in Denmark. He began carving in his father Emil's workshop, later studying under the great Sixten Ivarrson. Now a legend in his own right, Jess's pipes are prized the world over for their beauty and engineering. This bent Billiard is a fine example of the Danish artisan's work. The silhouette is classically inclined, with a subtle flourish at the shank. The bowl is smartly tapered from its plump midriff through to the rim. A cheeked transition moves smoothly into an upturned round shank that, when paired to its bent vulcanite stem, creates an especially sleek curve. The weight distribution on this piece is perfect, lending itself to easy clenching without sacrificing presence in hand. Dressed in a crisp sandblast, the stummel offers a wealth of tactile interest in black and deep ruby hues, contrasted excellently by the smooth rim. This understated yet exceptional piece is sure to become the pride of any smoker's collection.-Gabriel Bass
