Danish Estates: Mr. Andersen Smooth Bent Brandy Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33172
One of the pipes made for the Mr. Andersen brand, this bent Brandy displays work in line with that of a highly talented carver. The shank-and-stem combination here is strikingly bent, with the shank curling up swiftly out of the wide, cheeked transition, its ovoid shape tapering as it reaches toward a trim, smartly curved saddle stem. This plunging bend affords the pipe a fantastic stance for easy jaw-hanging and its relatively sleek build out back pushes further visual weight onto the bowl. Said bowl takes up much of this visual weight, as its build is almost two inches in both breadth and height, comprising a forward-urging shape that is possessed of ample curves throughout, its low-set waist plump and full and marking a taper through to the rim. This taper is far more pronounced at the aft than the fore, and there's a slight bit of asymmetricality about the bowl that manifests as a slight turn toward the left overall, though the feel in hand is still extremely comfortable. Dressed in a vibrant auburn-mahogany stain, this piece showcases some stunning grain throughout its stummel, with wrapping flame around the bowl and through the flanks of the shank.-John McElheny
