Danish Estates: Peter Heding Smooth Paneled Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33174
Originally a molecular biologist, Peter Heding discovered his love for pipe making after watching an interview with Anne Julie. Soon after, he began studying with Tom Eltang, learning from him for two years. Now a respected artisan in his own right, Heding's style is characterized by a delicate interplay between supple curves and ridgelines. This paneled Horn is a unique rendition of the traditional shape, featuring a broad, slightly domed rim and a sinuous curve. The flanks of the bowl are flattened, creating twin raised sections that run the length of stummel, growing slimmer toward the conjunction, where the ridges continue into the vulcanite stem, meeting there to create an artfully rendered half-saddle stem. The mouthpiece curves downward, in a mirror image of the stummel's undercurve. This fine piece is dressed in a rich chestnut stain, boasting fine flame grain around the bowl interspersed with touches of birdseye.-Gabriel Bass
