Anne Julie is a venerated legend in the world of Danish pipe making, having come to the craft through her marriage to Poul Rasmussen. After Rasmussen's unfortunate passing at a young age, Anne decided to take up the craft for herself with initial help from Hans "Former" Nielsen. Like many Danish carvers, Julie crafts sleek, minimalist pieces on the same level as her more organic designs. This distinctive Acorn is a fine example of her singular carving style, with a plateau-crowned rim flanked by intricate tendrils that run down the tapering bowl to pointed heel, giving the bowl the look of an anatomically correct heart. Out back, a slim round shank is joined to deeply carved stem of pink vulcanite, balancing the visual weight of the composition. Dressed in a rich crimson stain, the stummel is lent a further organic flourish.
