Danish Estates: Kurt Balleby Smooth Ballerina with Horn (00) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33281
The Ballerina shape is an original Bo Nordh design defined by a bowl that curls forward from above a pointed foot, shaped to emulate the poised stance of a ballerina en pointe. It's an organic, elegant form with sloping flanks decorated with cross grain that connect across the rim's fore. This Kurt Balleby interpretation is a stunning rendition — the grain beautifully oriented in crisp striations and hypnotic whorls of birdseye.
From shaping to grain orientation and accent work, this Ballerina is stunning. I particularly admire how the transition supports the curved shaping of the bowl's flanks, making the bowl's arcing silhouette even more dramatic and well defined. A flaring accent of horn extends the shank, its creamy hues adding a touch of vibrancy to the pipe's already gorgeous color palette. Stunning work from the Danish artisan and even more desirable as this one's earned Balleby's prestigious "00" designation.
