Danish Estates: Anne Julie Smooth Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-32264
Though originally introduced to the world of pipe making through her marriage to Poul Rasmussen, Anne Julie, over time, has become a titan of the craft in her own right. Not only are her pipes greatly admired for their elegant shaping and gorgeous presentation, but she has also contributed a wealth of guidance to young, upstart carvers. Most notably, Anne Julie was the first to recognize the talent of a young Tom Eltang, offering him an apprenticeship in her personal workshop. This Billiard is a striking reminder of Julie's incredible talent.
In keeping with Julie's typical shaping style, this Billiard boasts a sleek, streamlined appearance that foregoes any unnecessary accoutrements or pronounced flourishes, instead opting for a more subdued and understated elegance. Refined and lightweight, this piece features a tall, upright bowl that stands atop a rounded heel and displays a subtle taper from base to rim. Said bowl is rather slim, standing in perfect balance with the lithe, round shank. A warm, traditional, smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights a fetching display of flame grain and birdseye around the bowl.
