Danish Estates: S. Bang Smooth Acorn (C) Tobacco Pipe

After Svend Bang's retirement, long-time employees Per Hansen and Ulf Noltensmeier took over the S. Bang workshop and continued to produce highly-quality pipes until the pair's eventual retirement in 2019. With the workshop now closed, S. Bang pipes are highly sought often, making this Acorn shape a real find. Typical for the form, the bowl here possesses a high-set waistline, a flared, softly inflated rim, and a steady taper to a sharp, pronounced heel. The bowl, with its considerable girth and size, houses a respectable chamber capacity, and it rises proudly at the fore of a softly bent shank-and-stem arrangement. The oval shank tapers toward the arcing saddle stem, echoing the gradual reduction of the bowl and creating a sense of diminishing lines across the totality of the composition. An auburn smooth finish dresses the stummel and accentuates the sweeping flame grain on either flank of the bowl for added visual appeal.
