Danish Estates: Jess Chonowitsch Sandblasted Brandy (Replacement Stem by Adam Davidson) Tobacco Pipe

This is a gorgeous straight Brandy shape from Jess Chonowitsch. Its compact length lends extra visual weight to the soft Danish lines along the heel, taper, and waistline of the bowl — contrasted nicely by the arrow-straight shank-and-stem configuration. The sandblast, likewise, is expertly handled, bringing out a lovely display of ring grain without disrupting those aforementioned, soft lines. Fitting to its warm finish, it's topped with a finely patterned cumberland saddle stem for a very balanced and cohesive composition overall.

While this piece does have a replacement stem, it isn't the normal, stock variety. Since the original stem featured a small, pinhole tooth mark along the bottom, near the button, artisan carver Adam Davidson handmade a replacement that's identical to the one Chonowitsch himself made. Though technically not original, it wants for nothing in regard to quality, comfort, and Jess' intended style.
