The Stack is a shape we've seen a few times from Tom Eltang over the years, each one highlighting his meticulous eye for detail and expert engineering. However, this particular rendition is a piece that stands out from previous examples. Having previously utilized horn and silver as accenting materials, this particular Stack features three knuckles of bamboo, the medium's pale tones standing out in stark contrast against the smoky hue of the stummel's contrast stain, which brings out a mesmerizing display of streaked flame grain for a vibrant aesthetic. The towering bowl houses two inches of chamber depth and is beautifully shaped, gradually tapering from its plump, low-set waistline up toward its taut rim, while the length of shank and stem perfectly balances out the profile's proportions. It's pipes like this that excite pipesmokers and demonstrate why Tom Eltang is revered by anyone familiar with his work.
