Danish Estates: Erik Nielsen Smooth Bent Egg (C) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-33606
Erik Nielsen came into the craft of pipe making after an accident forced him into retirement from his job as a railroad worker. He studied pipe carving under Kurt Balleby, and has since accrued over a decade of experience as an artisan pipe maker, crafting pieces such as this bent Egg, one which showcases his skill in rendering sweeping curvature. Said curvature is manifested mainly in the shank and stem combination, its slim form lifting as it pushes out from a wide transition, the half-saddle orientation of the stem lending the composition a sweeping undercurve. This sleek pairing supports the presence of the hearty bowl, its walls being lent a wealth of plumpness to ensure an excellent feel in hand, tapering from its low-set waist to a softly domed rim. These walls rise high, holding a two-inch deep chamber within them and providing ample space to show off the stummel's warm mahogany stain, one which reveals dense flame grain all around the bowl.
