Though originally introduced to the world of pipe making through her marriage to Poul Rasmussen, Anne Julie, over time, has become a titan of the craft in her own right. Not only are her pipes greatly admired for their elegant shaping and gorgeous presentation, but Julie has also contributed a wealth of guidance to young, upstart carvers. Her work is typically marked by a distinctive floral aesthetic, as evidenced by this particular Billiard.
Resembling a budding flower, the bowl here is marked by distinctive ridges that emulate the appearance of petals. The wavy rim and textured carving afforded by the finish lends further organic character to this composition. A slender shank-and-stem arrangement brings up the rear and keeps the overall form looking sleek in profile. Dressed in a ruby-hued stain, this piece offers plenty of visual and tactile appeal.
