Danish Estates: Former Smooth Freehand Rhodesian Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-34611

Hans "Former" Nielsen has supervised the W.Ø. Larsen workshop, worked with Emil and Jess Chonowitsch, helped develop the marque Bentley, and refined his renowned pipe making skills over the past 60 years, cementing Former as a living legend. Many of Former's shapes are traditionally-inclined and turned on lathes, but he does make a number of imaginative Freehands as well. Furthermore, every Former pipe features impeccable engineering to ensure a superb smoke.

This Rhodesian by Former features a broad, tall bowl that exquisitely frames the grain pattern: wiry tendrils of flame grain ascend to a crisp, high-set ridgeline, while the tapered dome above showcases swirling whorls of birdseye, giving the composition a sharp and tidy look. Out back, the shank-and-stem arrangement presents a subtle S-curve in profile, imbuing this gestural pipe with the forward-flowing momentum — a classic Danish design cue. Furthemore, the stummel is dressed in a chestnut smooth finish, and the accompanying saddle stem is fashioned from jet-black vulcanite, giving this pipe a traditional appeal.
