Danish Estates: Peter Heeschen Sandblasted Cherrywood with Black Palm Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-34600
Although Peter Heeschen carved his first pipe at 17, he spent most of his professional life as a social worker. However, at 53 he turned to pipe making full-time and quickly left his mark on the history of Danish pipe making. Heeschen's pipes adhere closely to the classic Danish style, presenting gestural profiles that manifest an elegant forward-momentum. Additionally, Heeschen used only the finest materials when crafting his pipes, utilizing aged Calabrian briar, hand-cut vulcanite stems, and exotic accents such as whale tooth, bamboo, and exotic hardwoods. Sadly, Peter Heeschen passed away in 2015, leaving behind an extraordinary pipe making legacy.
This Cherrywood by Peter Heeschen strikes a dynamic pose, the robust bowl placed atop a tilted underside that makes this piece a resolute Sitter. Furthermore, the walls showcase a Dublin-esque flare, rising to a broad rim that encircles a capacious chamber. Out back, a trim, mid-set transition joins the bowl to a gestural shank, which bends upward to an understated accent of Black Palm. The composition is topped off by an offset saddle stem crafted from jet-black vulcanite, providing a comfortable clench and smoking posture. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in a rustic sandblast, highlighting concentric rings of undulating growth rings in a traditional chestnut smooth finish.
