Danish Estates: Peter Heding Smooth Freehand (Gold) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-35038

Before entering the world of pipe making, Peter Heding was a researcher with a Ph.D in molecular biology. He became fascinated with the craft after seeing some of Anne Julie's work, and with his interest piqued, Heding purchased a few briar blocks from Tom Eltang and fashioned his first pipes on his kitchen floor. Heding was invited to Eltang's workshop, where he apprenticed for two years, studying the intricacies of the craft. Heding eventually gave up his white coat and turned to pipe making full time, and he has since developed a reputation as one of Denmark's premier artisans.

This Freehand is a unique composition that brings to mind the Cobra shape, as it possesses that form's forward-ebbing bowl, wrapping ridgelines, and gradually sloped rim. Like the bowl, the shank boasts a pair of ridgelines that flank its sides and lend a structural dimension to the otherwise supple and flowing shape. The aforementioned rim's gentle descent into the transition naturally bridge the fore and aft sides of the stummel, fostering a visual unity across the length of the briar. Dressed in an orange-hued smooth finish, the stummel offers a beautiful showing of tight flame grain across the briar's surface.
