Danish Estates: S. Bang Smooth Billiard (Aftermarket Cosmetic Band) Tobacco Pipe

Originally a tobacconist, Sven Bang opened his first pipe and tobacco shop in 1968, eventually adding artisans Per Hansen and Ulf Noltensmeier to his staff as permanent craftsmen. Even after Bang's retirement, Hansen and Noltensmeier kept the shop open under its original name, crafting pipes until 2019. Today, S. Bang pipes, like this smooth Billiard are only available on the estate market. Lightweight and compact, this pipe is a great option for travel, while still housing a deep enough tobacco chamber to ensure you don't sacrifice smoking time. From a full-bodied heel, the insulating walls of the bowl rise to form the traditional cylindrical silhouette as they reach the rim. Subtly cheeking along the transition gives way to a rounded shank that is wrapped in a metallic accent band near its base. The inky pigment of the vulcanite saddle stem pairs well to the walnut-stained stummel, where patches of birdseye and crossgrain compete for attention.
