Danish Estates: Ben Wade Golden Walnut Freehand (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-35442

The Ben Wade name has a long, winding history. Founded in 1860 in Leeds, Yorkshire, the marque manufactured pipes there for over a century, the factory weathering German air raids during World War II. Lane Ltd. purchased Ben Wade in 1962, later partnering with the legendary Preben Holm to release a line of Danish Fancy Freehands, as seen here. This Freehand by Ben Wade possesses a figure akin to a bent Egg, imbued with whimsical, free-flowing linework. The bowl is pert and plump, with supple walls traveling from a rounded heel towards the rim, with the left side of the fore featuring a deep, fluted channel. A curvaceous shank makes a broad, defined transition from the bowl, which joins a stylized push-style stem. The stummel wears a fetching chestnut stain highlighting striking vertical grain all throughout.
