Danish Estates: Bijou Sandblasted Acorn (by Stanwell) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-35892
Immediately reminiscent of Sixten Ivarsson's iconic Potato Sack shape, this Acorn from Stanwell's Bijou brand boasts an impressive verticality and a dynamic silhouette. The bowl stands on a rounded, pronounced heel and grows thick, flaring walls that rise to a domed rim, offering a comfortable feel in hand and plenty of space to showcase the crisp sandblast of the stummel. A tight transition out back gives way to a curling shank that tapers as it reaches up to meet a long, demurely curved saddle stem of black vulcanite. Poised and elegant, this piece is sure to make a great addition to any collection of unique Danish classics.
During World War 2, while Europe was embroiled in turmoil, briar scarcity and limited international shipping meant that Danish pipe smokers couldn't obtain pipes from England. To fill this void, Poul Nielsen began making pipes out of beechwood under the name Kyringe. After the war, Nielsen transitioned to making briar pipes and eventually changed his brand's name to Stanwell. Stanwell became an immensely popular marque that often collaborated with notable Danish artisans, like Sixten Ivarsson, Jess Chonowitsch, Anne Julie, and Tom Eltang.
