Danish Estates: Svendborg Sandblasted Brandy Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-35844

In 1969, legendary Danish carvers Poul Ilsted and Jens "Tao" Nielsen founded the Svendborg workshop. The pair oversaw the production of the workshop's pipes through the 1970s before eventually leaving to pursue their individual pipe-making careers. Many handsome pipes came out of the workshop, with this sturdy Brandy being one such piece. As one might expect from the shape, the bowl here tapers from its broad heel to its taut rim, resulting in a pronounced curvature around the chamber's insulating walls, which conform quite effortlessly to the hand. In contrast to the bowl's tapered build, the shank expands dramatically as it exits the low-set transition, its flare continuing through a broad vulcanite accent that matches the slender stem, both in complexion and material. A crisp sandblast and earthy stain dress the stummel, revealing handsome grain and offering plenty of texture to appreciate.
