Danish Estates: Royal Castle Smooth (239) (by Stanwell) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-35863
During World War 2, while Europe was embroiled in turmoil, briar scarcity and limited international shipping meant that Danish pipe smokers couldn't obtain pipes from England. To fill this void, Poul Nielsen began making pipes out of beechwood under the name Kyringe. After the war, Nielsen transitioned to making briar pipes and eventually changed his brand's name to Stanwell. Stanwell became an immensely popular marque that often collaborated with notable Danish artisans, like Sixten Ivarsson, Jess Chonowitsch, Anne Julie, and Tom Eltang. This "239" Brandy by Stanwell boasts a plump bowl that tapers from its wide heel to its taut rim. Said bowl is positioned at the fore of a trim shank and a slender tapered stem, the latter of which promotes a comfortable clench. Dressing this piece is a smoky smooth finish that highlights healthy grain across the bowl's flanks.
