Danish Estates: Former & Eltang Ebony Smooth Bent Egg (Pipes & Tobaccos Magazine Pipe of the Year) (2004) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-36703
Fashioned back in 2004 for Pipes and tobaccos magazine's Pipe of the Year, this bent Egg represents a collaboration between Tom Eltang and Hans "Former" Nielsen, two of Denmark's premier artisan pipe makers. A sinuous and elegant take on the classic form, this piece boasts a plump, forward-ebbing bowl that stands at the fore of a fluid shank-and-stem arrangement. The bowl's active posture coupled with the shank and stem's elegant, sweeping lines result in a shape that's dynamic from end to end. The shape's refined, masterful shaping is mirrored by its dress, which consists of a jet-black smooth finish and a gleaming metallic accent. This piece's unique ebony finish and lack of serialized nomenclature make it incredibly rare, even within the already rarefied series. Only two were made. This one was a gift from Former and Eltang to the late Dayton Matlick, owner and publisher of P&T magazine.
