Danish Estates: Johs Partially Rusticated Paneled Bent Dublin (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38695
Owning and operating a pipe and tobacco shop with his wife, Doris, Mogans Johansen refers to himself as "Johs" as a pipemaker. Inspired by his close friend and fellow pipe craftsman, Peter Hedegaard, Johs entered the industry in the 1980s, where he eventually worked alongside renowned artist Bjarne Nielson in 1992. When Nielson died suddenly in 2008, Johs began making his own pipes. Today, he's known for his Danish Freehands that he crafts in his Ravenhøj workshop adjacent to his family's tobacco shop.
Featuring a series of six firm, precise panels around its flaring bowl, this is quite a structured take on the bent Dublin from Mogens Johansen. Those panels, coupled with the crisp rustication that covers the bowl's lower fore, offer enough texture to keep your fingers entertained. If you also happen to be a fan of grain, this pipe certainly has plenty of it: The broad, inflated rim is populated with birdseye while windswept flame grain patterns engulf the bowl's flanks.
