Danish Estates: Lasse Skovgaard Sandblasted Bent Egg Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38648
The work of Danish artisan Lasse Skovgaard is often marked by fluid grace and sleek curvature imbued with an eclectic and arresting sense of whimsy. Compared to his more evocative works, this bent Egg is remarkably reserved, though it maintains a stylish and graceful silhouette that pulls the eye toward the fore. The shank and stem form an elegant arc, with the shank itself lifting out from a wide transition and compressing into an understated oval shape: slenderizing the look of the aft side significantly. This slenderness is amplified by the demurely downturned saddle stem paired to the shank, its slim bit finishing the pipe's central S-curve. Up front, the heel's sweeping trajectory smoothly merges with the broad fore wall of the bowl, creating a continuous curve through the underside broken only by the stem's bit. Thick walls expand out of the heel and form a supple, curvaceous bowl that lives up to the pipe's namesake, offering a wealth of thickness in hand and plenty of insulation around the chamber. Dressed in an earthy sandblast, the stummel displays a wealth of rippling ring grain flowing across the briar.
