Danish Estates: Peter Heeschen Smooth Bent Egg with Black Palm (Unstamped) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38686
Danish artisan Peter Heeschen carved pipes for most of his life, his works comprising both signature shapes and timeless iterations of classic shapes that he carved until his death in 2015. Though not stamped with his name, this is a dynamic and playful style of bent Egg from the Danish artisan, complete with a gentle fluidity that lends it a charming demeanor. A wide transition here gives way to a rather short, curling shank that's met with a rising half-saddle stem whose base is accented with a band of black palm. The stem takes on a demure curvature as it reaches toward the button, offering a comfortable smoking posture and flowing profile. Up front, the bowl displays a reserved compression at the fore and aft, enhancing the supple curvature present at its flanks, which emphasizes plump cheeks and a comfortable feel in hand. The walls here rise and flare to a mid-set waist before tapering smoothly toward a subtly rounded rim, surrounding a capacious chamber and providing plenty of room to showcase the stummel's warm, grain-defining stain.
