Danish Estates: Peter Heeschen Sandblasted Acorn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38688
Danish artisan Peter Heeschen carved pipes for most of his life, his works comprising both signature shapes and timeless iterations of classic shapes that he carved until his death in 2015. This is a rather unique piece from Heeschen, being the first Acorn of its kind that we've seen from the artisan. Specifically, this is the first Acorn of his that we've seen with a bowl this tall and rounded and a shank as long as this one. The transition is wide, with ample room to drape a digit, and it gives way to the shank's lengthy reach, which is marked by a subtle flare toward the base of a short saddle stem. Said stem is a thick and demurely curved stretch of black vulcanite whose base continues the shank's flare, and it's accented with a band of dark hardwood. Up front, the bowl stands on a sweeping heel that naturally continues its trajectory into the fore wall, expanding in turn with the rest of the walls as they rise to a high-set waistline. This waist is plump and domed and forms a slight taper to the edge of the rim, completing the supple contours of the bowl and offering a comfortable feel in hand. Dressed in a crisp, ruddy sandblast, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout.
