Danish Estates: Kai Nielsen: Sandblasted Dublin with Horn (VVVV) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38782
The son of Viggo Nielsen, founder of the Bari pipe factory, Kai Nielsen spent his teenage years working in his father's shop for pocket money. This early start saw him committing to full-time work there when he turned 21, the wealth of experience aiding him in becoming a prolific artisan in his own right. His distinctive style is seen in this petite Dublin. The shank reaches out from a wide transition and boasts an appreciable reach coupled with a palpable thickness compared to the bowl. The stem is a sleek taper of genuine horn whose palette stands out in this composition thanks to its impressive contrast with the stummel's finish. The bowl is supported by a rounded heel that flows into the flaring fore wall, which curves significantly at the rim to form a broad, domed area around the chamber. Reminiscent of an Acorn, this pipe wears an inky sandblast, which reveals rippling bands of growth rings flowing down the bowl of this VVVV-grade piece.
