Danish Estates: Teddy Knudsen Sandblasted Paneled Poker Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-001-38943

Teddy Knudsen discovered his passion for pipe making while serving in the Danish Air Force, crafting pipes during his off-duty hours that quickly found eager buyers. Since opening his workshop in 1970, he has become internationally renowned for his meticulous craftsmanship and artistic mastery rooted in the Danish style. Knudsen's pipes are shaped by a deep respect for the natural grain of briar wood and a patient, inspiration-driven process that can take years. From hand-selecting Italian briar to handcrafting his vulcanite mouthpieces, every detail reflects his commitment to creating pipes that are masterfully engineered.

Though the Poker profile is familiar, this example stands out for its precision, balance, and keen attention to proportions. Its geometric silhouette is both visually striking and satisfying in hand. The cylindrical bowl is defined by eight crisp, evenly spaced facets that rise just over two inches, offering ample surface area to showcase the pipe's stunning grain. That grain flows effortlessly through this piece's stoic form, with growth rings rippling along the bowl's flanks, diverging from a flat heel adorned with swirling, blasted birdseye.

The rear of the pipe evokes the classic Lovat, featuring a rounded, elongated shank that lends a subtle elegance to the profile's otherwise bold geometry. One of Knudsen's hand-cut saddle stems completes the composition, abbreviated and sleek at the shoulders, tapering gracefully to the bit while maintaining the shank's clean lines. A ruby-hued sandblast dresses the briar, highlighting the aforementioned, beautiful grain throughout, enhancing it both texturally and visually. Teddy Kundsun's pipes are highly sought after by collectors worldwide, making this paneled Poker an exciting addition to our site.
