Danish Estates: Anne Julie Smooth Lovat Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-001-38972
When her husband, Poul Rasmussen, passed away, Anne Julie took over the workshop and became, for some time, the most famous female pipe maker in the world. It was a fairly empty category for a while, happily changing as more and more talented women have demonstrated their skills. This compact Lovat is among the most traditionally inclined pieces from the Anne Julie portfolio, departing from the legendary carver's penchant for organic designs and motifs. The Lovat is one of the most challenging classic shapes to get just right. It's a simple shape, but it's a simple shape where you've really got to work on the proportions and lines to make something that looks natural and balanced. But thanks to Julie's experience, this example is wonderfully executed, and dressed in a rich, burgundy stain to further enhance its traditional appeal.
