English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (51131) (1981)
Product Number: 004-002-12544
The very late 1970s and early 1980s were an odd period for Dunhill nomenclature, with both pipes using the five-digit system and those using today's four-digit system being produced at the same time. Here we find a "131" shape of the old five-digit system, which would be closest to the bent Brandy variation of today's "13" shape (the modern 13 varies considerably in design, covering Pot-like, Apple-like and Brandy-like designs). The main difference I can spot is the transition, here being much shorter in height, with a lower-slung and more elongated look.- Eric N. Squires
