English Estates: Askwith Sandblasted Bent Pot (2017)
Product Number: 004-002-16445
Chris Askwith makes some of the most unique briars to come out of the modern-day English school. This bent Pot is a handsome example, with a form that subtly evokes the look of a Castello "55" to my eye. There's perhaps a bit more uprightness to this fellow, but the heel sports a similar sense of plump paunch up front. There's loads of chamber within, and the dark sandblast, though understated, does well to coax out nicely stacked ring-grain on all flanks. It all looks fetching paired to one of Chris's vibrant polyester stems, too. Condition is good, despite a touch of overbuffing to the underside of the shank near the mortise.- Daniel Bumgardner
