English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (511) (1976)
Product Number: 004-002-18185
Simply a straightforward, traditional take on the classic Apple shape, this Dunhill "511" from 1976 is a great example of the legendary marque's approach to shape design. Though it bears no Group size stamping, I'd place this plump straight Apple somewhere between Group 3 and Group 4 in its overall proportions and chamber size. The shank and stem follow an elegant taper, giving the curvaceous bowl even more visual weight. As you might expect, it offers a comfortable feel in hand, with impressively stout chamber walls for a subtle warmth when smoked. The Bruyere finish has notably faded over the years, transitioning from its deep ruby hues to a warm chestnut color yet still complementing the piece's traditional shaping.
