English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (0414) (1976)
Product Number: 004-002-16793
Perhaps no other shape is as emblematic of great traditional English pipemaking as is the Bulldog by Dunhill. This piece was made in 1976, when I was in high school with no focus on pipes whatsoever and not getting any dates or pipes. At least I didn't try to get pipes, so that's my greatest high school success story: I didn't try to buy pipes, and succeeded. But I wish I'd had an interest if I could have found pieces like this "0414" by Dunhill. Traditional from rim to lip button, an presented in the classic Root Briar stain highlighting the grain, its ridges are crisp, its beadlines intact, and its smoking potential very high.- Chuck Stanion
