English Estates: Comoy's Blue Riband Billiard (93) (pre-1980) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-18085
Comoy's Blue Riband series enjoys quite the following, with collectors the world over having pined for the characteristically well-grained briars for decades. A Comoy's catalog from just after WWII stated, "Of every thousand pipe bowls that are made in the Comoy's workshops, forty or perhaps fifty will be picked out worthy to bear the Comoy name." It continues, saying that of these forty or fifty, only three or four will qualify for the Blue Riband name. We find their "93" Billiard bearing the series' prestigious stamping, and it's quite a trim, streamlined take on the classic straight Billiard. The bowl is noticeably forward-canted and houses a generous chamber, while the shank and stem trail arrow straight out back. The line's defining stain furthers the traditional aesthetic and brings out the best of the briar's grain.
