English Estates: Loewe & Co. 'Extra Grain' Smooth Billiard (1956-1968)
Product Number: 004-002-17928
Loewe & Co. pipes don't pop up frequently on the estate market compared to pieces from other English marques. At one time, they had a reputation similar to BBB and Comoy's. Loewe has a small, but very dedicated following, and for good reason; these pipes represent old London craftsmanship at its finest. This classically inclined Billiard adheres perfectly to the archetypal form and should definitely please any fans of faithful renditions of shape chart standards. Loewe pipes without silver are notoriously difficult to date, but the stamping indicates that this was made around sometime between 1956 and 1968. And while the "Extra Grain" stamp is somewhat puzzling, there's certainly no shortage of lovely grain here as lively licks of flame grain engulf the flanks.- Jeffery Sitts
