English Estates: Dunhill Amber Root (4202) (2001) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-18372
The Amber Root is the warmer sibling to the modern Root Briar, and like the Root Briar involves briars specially selected for the finish. Curiously, it has been noted that this finish is actually closer to the original Root Briar (introduced in 1931), that designation now wearing a considerably lighter stain. As far as I've been able to discern, there was no clear point of change, but rather a long period of overlap from the 1970s and into at least the '80s, of both the lighter and darker finish being used on Root Briars. The Amber Root proper was not introduced until the mid-1990s.
