English Estates: Larrysson Sandblasted Poker (41-10) (2010) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-19415
Right after I noticed the impressive sandblasts on Paul Larrysson Hubbart's pipes when I walked by his table in Chicago, I noted that a number of these pipes are truly massive. This one sports a chamber that's over two and a half inches deep, and the bowl in it's entirety tops out over three inches tall. More importantly though, it's three beautifully shaped inches as it flutes gently, slightly wider at the bottom and at the rim, and is totally encompassed in some truly extraordinary ring grain. The grain, perhaps in combination with this mottled brownish-red stain, reminds me of the Dunhill Cumberland finish, particularly the Shilling series, so named because the ring grain looks like stacks of coins. But this is better, I think, than any Dunhill Shilling I've ever seen. It's more like a Larrysson Guinea. Unsmoked.
