English Estates: Dunhill Root Patent (EK) (R) (1950)
Product Number: 004-002-19731
Beginning in the 1920s and continuing until the mid '70s, Dunhill sometimes utilized a shaping system that relied on letters instead of numbers — forms like the "PO," "LB," and "LC" being especially memorable. The "EK," featured here, was a traditional Foursquare that is still featured on the English marque's shape chart, though it's now known as the "24." This particular "EK" example was fashioned in 1950 and bears one of the English marque's patent stamps. The shape is an inherently stoic one — its paneled shaping drawing focus and enabling it to sit firmly upright. It's found in the prestigious Root finish, revealing a stunning array of windswept grain in a gorgeous, tiger stripe-like pattern. To note: the slot was opened up a touch on this piece.- Jeffery Sitts
