English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (6101) (1987)
Product Number: 004-002-29463
Rendered in hearty Group 6 size, this "01" straight Apple from Dunhill is stunning in its shaping and classic appeal. From the hearty bowl, with its impressive chamber depth contained within plump walls, to the continuing muscularity of the shank and tapered stem, this is a remarkable piece. This Root Briar example is dressed in a light chestnut stain that showcases striking cross grain with birdseye speckling flanks. Fashioned back in 1987, this pipe remains a testament to the English marque's skill with the shape.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.-Angela Robertson
